The payoff calculator
that gets 0% promo cards right.

The month a 0% promo ends is split by the day: promo rate up to the date, the card's own rate from then on. That is how Payoff Lab arrives at the date you are actually done. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Worked example. Three cards, $950.00 a month from October 1 2026, avalanche order. Every figure is the calculator's own output.

Why the numbers here are different

Four choices in the math, each one visible in the example above.

Interest changes on the day your promo ends
The expiry month is split by day: promo rate up to the date, regular rate after it, rounded once. Because that timing can make either strategy cheaper, both totals are always computed on your numbers.
Daily rate, actual days
Interest is the daily periodic rate times the days in that month, posted once on the month's opening balance. Not APR divided by twelve. If you pay mid-cycle your card charges a little less than this shows; the estimate never runs under reality.
Infeasible plans are named
If the budget does not cover the minimums, or interest outruns the payments, the result says which debt and by how much. No schedule is produced that cannot be paid.
Nothing leaves the browser
The engine is a pure function on your device. No account, no upload, no debt figures on any server. The privacy page lists everything collected; debt figures appear there only as kept on your device.

Questions

Avalanche or snowball: which should I pick?

For ordinary debts, avalanche (highest APR first) costs the least in interest. With a 0% promo card neither classic rule is guaranteed cheapest, because avalanche ignores the promo card until its rate is real, which can cost you when the promo ends. That is why both strategies are always computed on your numbers with the dollar difference shown. Pick the cheaper one, or the one that keeps you going. The worst strategy is minimum payments only.

Why do my results differ from other calculators?

Mainly because promo expiry dates are modelled. If you have a 0% intro card, a tool that ignores the expiry is flattering you. The interest model is also deliberately conservative: daily periodic rate on each month's opening balance, posted monthly. That can run a little higher than your card's average-daily-balance billing, and by design never lower.

Is my financial data safe?

It never leaves your device. The planner runs entirely in your browser, and your inputs are saved only to this browser's local storage so they are there when you come back. Your debt figures never reach our server; the privacy page lists everything that does.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is arithmetic on the numbers you enter, using standard daily-interest formulas. Your lender's exact posting rules differ slightly, and the tool cannot see fees, rate changes, or new spending. For hardship options such as settlements or management plans, talk to a nonprofit credit counselor.
