Bank statements,
as a spreadsheet.

In your bank or card's website, open Statements or Activity. A CSV download gives the cleanest result and usually covers 12–24 months; the monthly PDF statements work too, read from their printed lines. Scanned PDFs (no text layer) can't be read.

No. Files are read in your browser's memory and the CSV, Excel and QuickBooks files are written there too. Close the tab and it's gone. There is no upload code in this product, and the privacy page lists the only things that ever reach us.

Date (year-month-day), Description as the bank wrote it, Amount signed (negative is money out), Debit and Credit as separate columns, and the source file. Amounts are numbers in Excel, so sums and pivots work. In the QuickBooks and OFX files, accents and typographic quotes are written as plain ASCII, which those formats require. A running balance isn't carried over: banks print it inconsistently and it is not needed for import. One file is capped at 500,000 rows; convert fewer statements at a time past that.

It is a standard OFX 1.02 file with the Intuit fields, checked with an independent OFX parser. QuickBooks Desktop imports it under File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files, and QuickBooks Online under Banking → Upload transactions. QuickBooks Desktop only accepts a Web Connect file for a bank registered with Intuit, and we never label your file as another bank. You choose where it goes. “New account in QuickBooks” asks you to pick the bank the statement came from, from Intuit's own list (it shows each bank's website, since some names are alike), and the file carries that bank's QuickBooks id. If QuickBooks already has an account for that bank with the same account number, the transactions go there; otherwise it sets up an account, and typing the same account number each month keeps adding to it. If your bank isn't on the list, there is no .qbo for it: download CSV or Excel instead. “An account I already import into from my bank” puts the transactions in your existing account: choose one .qbo file you downloaded from that bank and the converter copies its bank id and account number (read in your browser, never uploaded), so QuickBooks treats the file like one from your bank. Only convert months you have not already downloaded from the bank: QuickBooks recognises a second copy of our file as a duplicate, but cannot tell our copy of a transaction from the bank's. Desktop will not import into an account that has a live automatic bank feed: deactivate that feed first (Edit Account → Bank Feed Settings → Deactivate All Online Services) or use a new account. Desktop also asks you to be signed in to your Intuit account, and QuickBooks Desktop 2023 and earlier no longer import Web Connect files (Intuit ended their online services on 31 May 2026). Each transaction carries a stable id (same statement in, same ids out, alone or merged with other files), so importing the same converted statement twice does not create duplicates. Xero, Quicken and GnuCash take the OFX version. Convert one account's statements at a time: the converter reads each file as a bank or card statement and tells you which, but which QuickBooks account the transactions land in is QuickBooks' decision.

We sniff rather than assume: for a CSV, the date, description, and either a signed Amount or a Debit/Credit pair, with US, day-first or ISO dates; for a PDF, the transaction lines, the section headings that say in or out, and the statement period for the year. The page tells you how each file was read, and a per-file Flip control fixes a wrong guess in one click.
